always will shine

well friday was the last day at the internship and it was really kind of an odd day/feeling. i came in late, spent a lot of the day with volunteers, went to lunch with two of the interns who got hired, and then went to turn in my badge. i wrote a bunch of people thank you notes so i went around and passed them out and gave the last hugs. it's always kind of a weird feeling to leave somewhere when you know all of the people will still be there.

saturday was a laaaazy day all morning before i finally got out to have dinner with a friend and a bunch of his friends from college. can we briefly discuss how gay guys are the easiest people to get along with when you've first met them? i met this guy adam for the first time last week, and last night it seemed like we'd been friends forever. i love people like that.

tonight i'm excited because we're going to marvin and the speakeasy, my two favorite places in DC, for the last time. that will be the perfect ending. i'm sad i can't take those places back with me to austin.

speaking of austin.. i'll be there in three dayss! that's getting more and more exciting. 70 degree weather! i can't even imagine.

every little thing she does is magic

i know. it's been 2 days. i'll be back tomorrow with a multi-day update. time for bed so i can catch at least half of the sunday morning show.

this isn't sometimes

it was crepe night at our house tonight
homemade whipped cream and butter is my favorite. tastes like my birthday.

miriam showing you her skills:
ajiri, the third roommate, who is never before seen! she doesn't always look quite like that.

the other night i was telling john about how much i love that commercial with all of the smiles made out of everyday objects (like the vacuum.. the boat with the life rings, you know?) and how having the job of finding smiles occurring in nature would be my dream job. i was trying to challenge him to a smile finding contest.. but he wouldn't take the bait.
anyway tonight as i was about to take a bite of my crepe, will you believe what i found..
see him?
i'm going to keep looking for them. let me know if you find any.

below the northern lights

i would show you a picture of the patient, but i don't think the general public should be subjected to things like that. it literally made my knees feel weak to see jeffy in such a state. he has serious chipmunk face. i called this evening and chatted with my mom on speakerphone with jeff using the stephen-hawking-style computer voice to chat. i could only understand every couple of words. anyway maj said he's been drinking lots of liquids and is doing fine.

i am getting soo excited for austin! but it's been a fun last week in DC. this weekend is going to be fantastic. and it's kind of warming up for a few days. 50 tomorrow. i hope it feels noticeably warm[er]. we'll see. too bad i left all of my sundresses at grams.

summer sun

my brother is having jaw surgery tomorrow so i'm just going to ask that you send your good energy his way in lieu of a post tonight.

euro jazz

if you're a pandora fan, or if you're not, type 'koop' into the 'create a new station' and tell me it's not the best station you've ever heard. it's chill, it's kind of european, jazzy, 'sultry', if you will. i really like it.

interesting day today. i worked from 11:30-7:30. this woman, who basically crushed my dreams of ever using chinese for a job last time i spoke with her, had no recollection of ever speaking to me before.. and this time around, she was very pleasant and said she hopes to see me again soon and how pleasant i was. i'm moving away from strongly disliking her and moving toward neutral.

tonight we went to the big hunt, a bar south of dupont circle, because they were having a party because they're introducing new beer from ohio. to celebrate, they were supposed to have cleveland style food. the only thing we saw was hamburger helper on a toasted baguette. it sounds about as delicious as it was. the good thing about having parents who love food more than almost anything else is that we've always lived places with amazing culinary profiles. san diego. flagstaff ..which is close to new mexico.. texas. mexican food of all kinds. bbq.

time for bed!

she moves in her own way

these are some of the pictures aunt carol took at christmas in new hampshire
me and sleepy gram on christmas afternoon
a little spritz cookie action. we used this silly electric extruder and it was mayhem. i put it together wrong 3 times before i gave up on it completely.
mr. roberge, my second favorite elderly man. we share a birthday.
christmas eve dinner with family friends. chris is finishing medical school to be an anesthesiologist (woo! spelled it right on the first try!), so we talked mostly about health care.

winter house!
a far cry from the regular texas charlie brown rescue tree, but pretty nonetheless.
scalloped potatoes. i sliced my finger on the mandolin, so gram had to take over when i got to the nub.
a little pork rib snack before bed.
lounging.
spanky, me, gram and aunt carol.

p.s. this is outside the cabin. the lake is frozen. who would have thought that would ever happen in texas?
