one of my favorite bloggers has been posting the stories of her life and it's been so interesting. it made me want to tell you my favorite story about how my grandparents met.
my grandma was working as a switchboard operator for the phone company back when you had to call the operator and switch the lines. all of the switchboard girls lived in the same hotel. my grandpa was just returning from germany and i thiiiink he was staying in a nearby hotel with his friends.

..she's really going to appreciate this photo.
he had a big crush on my grandma so he used to wait outside the phone company so he could walk her home at night. but there was a little catch.. he was engaged. and my grandma's friends told her so. so gram refused to talk to him even though he continued to wait outside for her day after day. finally, one day he told he her was no longer engaged.. and she let him walk her home.
the rest is history.

my dad was also engaged before he reconnected with my mom. that's a story for another day.

So I wonder if you're going to follow the maternal tradition of falling in love with someone who is engaged to someone else before falling in love with you? Geez, if you can follow that thought.....
ReplyDeleteYour Grandfather's company housed male employees on a different floor of the same hotel where the phone company housed the female employees. Sounds like the recipe for a 1940's novel doesn't it? Grandpa had just gotten back from fighting in WWII.
ReplyDeleteGeesh....how quickly we forget detail.
